Fujifilm recipe apps vs Chobial on iPhone
The best iPhone app for Fujifilm film simulations depends on one thing: whether you own a Fujifilm camera. Fuji X Weekly, Fuji Frame and Fuji Pic are recipe apps. They help you set up an X or GFX body, and the camera renders the JPEG. Chobial is an iPhone camera. It shoots RAW and renders its own films, inspired by Fujifilm's simulations, on the phone itself.
So if you have a Fuji, a recipe app is what you want, and it's good at it. If you want the look from your iPhone, a recipe app can't help, because none of them changes a photo the phone takes. The two kinds work well together, too: Chobial can develop your Fuji's RAF files with any film.

- Fuji X Weekly's FAQ answers "Can the App edit photos?" with "No". Fuji Frame's and Fuji Pic's listings describe recipes for the camera only.
- Tone and highlight rolloff, curves, an 8-band colour mixer, split toning, grain modelled on real stocks, halation, and
.cubeLUTs as a starting point. - Experimental, on X-Trans IV (except X-T3 and X-T30), X-Trans V and newer GFX bodies. One recipe at a time is free; sets of recipes at once need Patron. Fuji X Weekly warns it may void the camera's warranty.
"No" means the feature isn't offered according to the app's own website and App Store listing on the date above. Prices are from the US App Store.
The recipe apps, one by one
- Fuji X Weekly is Ritchie Roesch's app, on the App Store since December 2020 and rated 4.5 from 120 ratings in the US. Over 400 recipes are free, each with the cameras it suits. Its new Recipe Transfer sends a recipe to a custom slot over a USB-C cable. It's on Android too.
- Fuji Frame (June 2026) builds a recipe for you. Give it a film still, a scan from a film camera or a few words, and AI returns a recipe with the simulation, tone, colour, grain and white balance set. It reads and writes the camera's C1–C7 slots over USB-C. It's new, with one rating so far.
- Fuji Pic (June 2026) is a curated library you can filter by sensor generation, film stock, mood and scene, with sample photos and notes on where each recipe works best. You program the values into a custom slot yourself. It's also on the web and Android.
- FUJIFILM XApp is Fujifilm's own free app. It transfers photos, works as a remote with Film Simulation among the live-view settings, and backs up and restores camera settings. Fuji X Weekly describes using those backups to swap sets of seven recipes, with catches: a backup restores every setting, not just the recipes.
Where the recipe apps are ahead
- The real thing. With a Fujifilm camera, a recipe runs on Fujifilm's own film simulations, on a much bigger sensor. Chobial's films are our own, solved from a Fujifilm camera's RAW developments. They're close, not identical.
- Hundreds of tested recipes. Fuji X Weekly and Fuji Pic each list hundreds, with sample photos and the cameras they suit. Chobial ships 24 films and the tools to make more.
- A look from a picture. Fuji Frame builds a recipe from a film still or a description, and Fuji Pic matches a photo to a recipe. Chobial has nothing like that.
- Price. Fuji X Weekly's whole library is free, and Patron costs $19.99 a year.
- iPad, Mac and Android. All three run on iPad and Mac, and Fuji X Weekly and Fuji Pic are on Android. Chobial is iPhone only.
Where Chobial is ahead
- No Fujifilm camera needed. The film is rendered on the iPhone, live in the viewfinder, from a RAW negative. See shooting like an X100VI on iPhone.
- Change the look later. A JPEG from a recipe is finished. A Chobial photo can be developed again with any film, including ones you make later.
- Your own film, shared as the film. Build one with real film controls, or rebuild a recipe you like (Fujifilm recipes on iPhone), then send it as a QR code anyone can scan.
- Your Fuji's RAWs too. Import RAF files and develop them with the same films you shoot on the phone, with masks and heal in the same editor.
Pick a recipe app
You shoot a Fujifilm X or GFX camera and want its JPEGs finished in camera: Fuji X Weekly for the free library, Fuji Frame for AI-built recipes, Fuji Pic for curated ones.
Pick Chobial
You want the look on photos from your iPhone, live and from RAW, and the freedom to change it later. Or you shoot both, and want one set of films for each.
How the built-in films were made, and where they differ from Fujifilm's, is in solving a film simulation from photographs.

Questions
Can I use Fujifilm film simulations on iPhone?
Not Fujifilm's own. They run inside Fujifilm cameras, and no iPhone app has them. Some apps offer looks inspired by them. Chobial's built-in films were solved from a Fujifilm camera's RAW developments, show live in the viewfinder, and develop from the iPhone's RAW.
What's the best app for Fujifilm recipes?
If you own a Fujifilm camera: Fuji X Weekly for the largest free library and USB transfer, Fuji Frame for recipes built by AI from a photo or a description, or Fuji Pic for curated recipes with sample photos. None of them changes photos taken with the iPhone.
Can I use a recipe app and Chobial together?
Yes. Use the recipe app to set up your Fujifilm camera, then import its RAF files into Chobial and develop them with any film. You can also rebuild a recipe you like as a Chobial film and shoot it on the iPhone.
Is the Fuji X Weekly app free?
Yes. Its whole recipe library is free, with no ads. A Patron subscription, $19.99 a year, adds filtering, favourites, your own recipes, early recipes and sending sets of recipes to the camera at once.
