What's new. Developed weekly.

Chobial is in beta, so it changes a lot. Every build that reached testers is here, newest first. 13 builds since 28 September, and counting.

Build 29882816

22 new films, and JPEG

  • 22 new films, modelled on Kodak and Fujifilm datasheets, with plain names like Tungsten, Pastel and Noir. The shelf is now 46 films long, and nobody is complaining.
  • Shoot JPEG as well as ProRAW, RAW and HEIF, and import JPEGs and iPad photos too.
  • Highlights squeeze evenly up to sixteen times white, so a bright sky darkens instead of washing out.
  • Rulers got bigger and brighter, so you can find zero without squinting.
Build 29879910

Chobial on iPad and iPhone Duo

  • Chobial on iPad: every orientation, and the editor beside the photo instead of on top of it.
  • Chobial on iPhone Duo: wide and folded layouts, a dock, and HEIF where a camera has no RAW.
  • Hold a mask in the list to rename, duplicate or delete it.
Build 29876298

Sliders became rulers

  • Sliders became rulers. While you drag one, everything else gets out of the way: just you, the photo and the control.
  • A Compare button for a before/after slider; holding the photo still shows the original.
  • No more exposure modes. Tap ISO or Shutter, turn the dial, tap Auto to hand it back.
  • Lots of tidying: rounder pictures, roomier panels, orange switches, glassier sheets.
Build 29870820

Edits as Reel, and captions

  • Edits as Reel: turn a photo's edits into a 1080×1920 video for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. Your before-and-after, but make it cinema.
  • Give any photo a caption of its own, kept with it and written into exports.
  • Press and hold to pick photos, the way Photos does.
Build 29862682

Frames, seven of them

  • Frames: seven styles, from a corner caption to an instant print, a film card that loads the film, or a strip of 35 mm negative.
  • The photo's details slide up from under it, and its actions moved down to where your thumb lives.
Build 29860504

The editor goes glass

  • The editor now sits over the photo on glass, and fades to just the slider you're dragging.
  • Each RAW develops to the camera's own brightness, so photos start closer to what you saw.
Build 29857526

Films as links, nine more films

  • Share films as links that open straight in the app.
  • Nine more films, including Vintage, Cinema, Bleach and the Mono family. Mono, Bleach and Sepia save free.
  • Straighten with a ruler, or let it straighten itself. New 4:3, 5:4 and 7:5 crops.
  • A faster camera, and lenses that change behind an iris.
Build 29852336

A proper back button

  • A proper back button from the library to the camera, and a flip toggle for the front camera.
Build 29849356

The new editor

  • The new editor: six tools, with dots where the edits are. Hold undo to go back to any step.
  • Copy and paste edits, or save a photo's edits as a film of its own.
  • Photos sync through iCloud by default, and each thumbnail shows its sync state.
  • Skies come from the camera's own sky matte where the RAW has one.
Build 29848174

Small fixes

  • Small fixes. The kind you only notice when they're missing.
Build 29847228

Ten more languages

  • Chobial speaks ten more languages: Japanese, Korean, both Chineses, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
Build 29845265

Housekeeping

  • Housekeeping: new app identifiers and prices, so the beta looks like the real thing.
Build 29843908

The first beta

  • The first beta. A film camera that shoots RAW, with the film live in the viewfinder.
  • An editor with masks (brush, gradient and range), spot healing, cloning and a histogram.
  • Your library syncs through iCloud. Camera Control opens the camera straight away.
